Gebre_Manchester 2015_a3768615-19a1-4ac9-ba6e-aa94d9c93780<The hugely popular and world-famous Ethiopian will still participate in races but no longer with the intention of getting on the podium. “I’m retiring from competitive running, not from running. You cannot stop running, this is my life”. His decision came as a something of a surprise although he had told some close confidents in recent days that this would be his last serious race>.

Scrive Phil Minshull @IAAF (qui la notizia @GaSport) e aggiunge <the announcement of his retirement was confirmed to the IAAF by his manager Jos Hermens> perché Haile Gebrselassie era stato precipitoso dopo il ritiro alla NYC Marathon 2010.

Poi ha copiato Giorgio Calcaterra all’ultima maratona di Roma, <after crossing the finishing line for the first time, Gebrselassie went back to the start to run the 10km route again as a part of the mass field>, un po’ più facile sui 10km a Manchester, domenica 10/05 <finished back 16th in 30:05, he said he picked up a small injury after a recent speed work session, and the five-time winner of this race was never up with the leaders today>. Così potrà ripetere il mantra di 4½ anni fa “no complain, no complain any more” e traduco “basta lamentarsi, basta lamentarsi mai più“.

[01] I felt good and easy during the race; the pace was fine. After 25km my left upperleg started slowly to cramp up. [02] At 32km, I could not lift my left leg properly anymore and I had to stop. My training went well and I had no indication for this. [03] I will check out the problem and run another marathon, since I feel in good shape. Gebre sembra non mollare, anche se il tweet di David MONTI è impietoso “Sadly, @HaileGebr has finished only one of his last 5 marathons: DNF NYC ’10, DNS Tokyo ’11, DNF Berlin ’11, (4) Tokyo ’12, DNF Fukuoka ’12.” Commento di un follower “End of an Era”.
